We played several rounds of Know Thyself with friends and their teenage kids, and it turned into one of the most meaningful family conversations. The game created a safe space where the teens , who naturally prefer to avoid talking to “annoying parents”, opened up in ways none of us expected. One teen shared how much he admires his dad’s calmness and intelligence, something he’d never expressed before. Another was genuinely shocked to hear his mom describe him as hardworking, generous, and someone she’s deeply proud of. He said all he usually hears at home are reminders to clean his room.
For the parents, it was an eye-opener to hear how their actions are interpreted by their teens, and to realise that things they saw as small were actually stressing their kids. The depth of sharing simply wouldn’t have happened without the structure and safety this game created.
Know Thyself helped us connect across generations and say things that really needed to be said. Highly recommended for any family wanting deeper, more honest conversations.
